Ethereum, the hard fork Berlin will be held in mid-April
The news was confirmed on the company blog
Berlin – Ethereum’s long-awaited blockchain hard fork – will take place in mid-April. This was confirmed by project protocol support manager Tim Beiko, in a post that was posted on the company’s blog. The update is expected to be activated on the mainnet at block 12,244,000, which is expected to fall on April 14. Because the actual production times of the blocks may vary, the exact timing may eventually change, though not significantly.
Berlin: why is it so long awaited?
Why is the Berlin update so awaited by the community and observers? The reason for this is mainly the fact that it proposes some extremely important objectives, for the subsequent growth of the network.
In particular, the hard fork aims to help it by optimizing the use of gas tariffs and mitigate the always possible denial of service (DoS) attacks. Before being activated on the mainnet, the update will be active for the first time on testnet-Ropsten on March 10, followed by Goerli and Rinkeby on March 17 and 24 respectively. The draft update specification, published in January, contained five EIPs, but only four of them were actually called upon to be part of the final version.
The update was originally scheduled for summer 2020
It should be stressed that the wait for Berlin has a delay in its implementation compared to the original road map. Which in fact showed the update in the summer months of 2020. This could not be successful due to centralization issues resulting from the “critical dependency” on the Geth client.
Berlin is an update of Ethereum 1.0’s current proof-of-work blockchain and comes after Istanbul and Muir Glacier updates, implemented in December 2019 and January 2020 respectively. It will be followed by another update, London, which is expected to take place in July of this year. However, we are still in the field of proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism, which will then be replaced by proof-of-stake (PoS). An event awaited as a real milestone by Ethereum’s supporters.
Ethereum is obliged to move from the activism of the competition
Ethereum’s working group is practically obliged to move and seek continuous improvements in its ecosystem. It is precisely the great activism highlighted by some of the competing projects that forces it in this regard. In particular from Cardano, the cryptocurrency of professors that has been growing for months now not only in terms of market capitalization, but also in terms of reputation. So much so that he is now listed as the main candidate for the role of Ethereum Killer. That is, the project that could fill the role currently occupied by the creation of Vitalik Buterin, in the field of decentralized finance.A growth that is in turn based on continuous work aimed at making ADA more and more performing. Again, leveraging the proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, which is proving to be the real key to assertion in that DeFi sector that is in turn in the midst of rapid growth. Of which the project could take advantage, it will be able to convince the community of enthusiasts and investors of its actual goodness from an exquisitely technical point of view.
